The match between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers completely became a one-man show in the second half. Ben McDermott scored 110 runs in a run chase of 176 runs and guided his team to a victory by seven wickets. McDermott’s efforts helped him win the player of the match award in the 22nd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22.
Strikers won the toss and elected to bat. Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald opened the innings. Short’s innings were cut short by Thomas Rogers as he dismissed him for a score of two runs off three balls in the second over. Matt Renshaw joined Weatherald in the middle, and they both started piling up runs of every over.
By the time, Riley Meredith dismissed Weatherald, he already had completed his half-century. Renshaw also didn’t last long after Weatherald’s dismissal as Meredith dismissed him for 63 runs. The next few set of batters couldn’t do much for the team as Strikers could make only 175 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Ben McDermott’s show
Ben McDermott just played one of the most well-paced T20 inns in Big Bash League history. Chasing 176 runs to win, he scored his 50 off 36 balls and in the last 24 balls of his inns, he smashed 60 to end up on 110*(60). Scored 12 off 7 from Rashid's bowling too. #BBL11

Ben McDermott led the team to an easy victory
Ben McDermott opened the innings along with Matthew Wade for the Hurricanes. George Garton dismissed Wade for a score of six runs in the second over. D’Arcy Short was involved in an 81 runs partnership with McDermott before Peter Sidle dismissed him for 37 runs in the 13th over.
After D’Arcy Short’s dismissal, it was all about McDermott as he went in a complete rampage mode. He completed his half-century off 36 balls and by the end of the innings he had scored 110 runs off 60 balls. He disturbed the line and length of each and every bowler and won the player of the match award. Riley Meredith picked three wickets for Adelaide Strikers after conceding 37 runs in his quota of four overs.
Garton, Siddle, and Rashid Khan picked one wicket each and remained costly too. A batting show from McDermott century was enough to take his team home.
