After four defeats against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) managed to beat the Yellow Army by six wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Sunrisers bowlers choked the CSK batsmen after which an onslaught by the SRH top-order batsmen got them home. SRH also moved one place up to the fifth position on the table.
SRH restrict CSK to a low score
The Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first and the decision didn’t quite work out for them as the visitors could only score 132 for five. Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis got CSK off to a decent start courtesy of a stand of 79 off 59. The former got 31 and he was castled by Shahbaz Nadeem. Du Plessis was looking good and he perished after getting 45 from 31 with three fours and as many sixes.
Vijay Shankar got Faf’s prized scalp. In the last 10 overs, the SRH bowled brilliantly and gave away runs at around a run-a-ball. Suresh Raina hit two fours and he fell prey to Rashid Khan, who next got rid of Kedar Jadhav. Khaleel Ahmed nipped out Sam Billings for a duck. Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja threw their bats and could only add 31. While Jadeja ended with a 20-ball 10, Rayudu scored 25 runs.
Sunrisers cease their losing streak
The Sunrisers had already strained in a couple of games, chasing modest targets. However, today, they started on a positive note and literally put CSK out of the game. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow laid into Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur to score as many as 68 runs in the mandatory powerplay. Warner accomplished his half-century in 24 balls before perishing to Chahar in the sixth over.
At the other end, Bairstow didn’t die wondering and he kept playing his strokes. Kane Williamson gave a simple caught and bowled chance to Imran Tahir. Shankar tried to put his head down and he became Tahir’s second victim. Bairstow went on to get his fifty in 39 balls. Karn Sharma dismissed Deepak Hooda, but Bairstow deposited him over the cow corner to bring the curtains down on the game.
Here is how Twitterrati praised the Sunrisers
Dismissing a batsman while playing a defensive shot speaks volumes about the quality of bowling. Tahir has been the spinner of this #IPL #SRHvCSK

Will CSK Bhakts give credit to Warner and Bairstow for SRH win or talk about Dhoni’s absence for CSK loss? #SRHvCSK

Jonny Bairstow.

Below par Score. Tells you how important Dhoni is to CSK. The batting form is a concern. Important how Raina uses CSK's spinners efficiently. It will determine where this game is headed. For now SRH are ahead. #SRHvCSK

Brilliant start by faf and Watson! Now a good chance for even 180! Still feel this wicket is on the slower side and will get a little bit slower as the night progresses 160 is still a difficult score to get. #CSKvsSRH #IPL2019

Rayudu’s Dream11 points : 13.5
Shankar’s Dream11 points:
Batting: 2.5
Bowling: 10
Catching: 4Total: 16.5
Rayudu was ahead of Shankar with the bat, but Shankar’s ‘3D’ skills makes him the winner here. #SRHvCSK
