Twitter Reactions: For a change, it's England who choke
From being well on course of a win to failing to get over the line it was England's game that they lost.
In what was the second T20 international between the Poms and the Proteas, the Taunton witnessed an exciting game of cricket. South Africa secured a nail-biting win as they managed to level the series 1-1. Earlier in the day, it was captain Eoin Morgan who won the toss as England elected to field first. They made 3 changes as Tom Curran, Liam Livingstone and Liam Plunkett came into the team. For South Africa, Dane Peterson, Morne Morkel and Chris Morris were brought in the playing XI.
Batting first, the Proteas lost two quick wickets. In spite of the early dismissals, JJ Smuts made sure the visitors had a flier of a start as he scored 45 (35) with 3 maximums. Skipper AB de Villiers looked back in flow as he smashed 46 (20) during his stay at the crease as he too hit three sixes.
However, South Africa lost way in the end as they gave away too many wickets. The likes of David Miller and Chris Morris failed to replicate their potential. Farhaan Behardien provided some finishing touches as the Proteas managed to post a total of 174/8 in their quota of 20 overs.
Tom Curran was the pick of the bowlers as he got three wickets. Liam Plunkett managed to get a couple of wickets. David Willey also bowled really well as he got the prized wicket of de Villiers who was looking dangerous. Chris Jordan and Liam Dawson were expensive but got a wicket each.
While Sam Billings was back to the pavilion by the end of the second over, it was Jason Roy who took the onus with some splendid batting at the top. Jonny Bairstow also batted really well as he scored an impressive 47 (37).
At 133/2 by the end of 15 overs, England were on course for a victory. However, there was a twist in the tale as Roy went on to become the first batsman to get out obstructing the field in a T20 international. The wickets followed as skipper Morgan and even Jos Buttler got out in quick succession and England choked in the end.
The match went on till the last balls as England fell short to hand South Africa a magnificent victory by 3 runs. Chris Morris bowled splendidly for his 2/18 while Dane Peterson and Andile Phehlukwayo managed a wicket each.
