Twitter Reactions: Chris Morris hits the fastest fifty in IPL 9
The Delhi Daredevils were rocked back in their chase by Dhawal Kulkarni’s triple strike, which left them reeling at 16/3. The target of 172 looked daunting and nobody gave them a chance to even get close to it. JP Duminy and Rishabh Pant tried to settle in but couldn’t put the accelerators on. It was the 11th over when Pant was dismissed and the scorecard read 57/4 in 10.4 overs. In walked South African all-rounder Chris Morris, with 116 still needed off 56 balls. Taking no time to settle in, Morris soon announced his arrival at the crease with a 101m long six.
If that wasn’t enough for the Delhi fans to relish, he clobbered another couple of sixes off the bowling of Pravin Tambe. Not many would know that Morris had once singlehandedly won an ODI for South Africa against England, taking his side to a win from jaws of defeat. Something similar beckoned here at the Kotla.
Chris Morris clobbered all the bowlers and hit sixes over mid-wicket and long on at will. It was the 17th over of the match and the ball was given to Dwayne Smith. He hit 3 consecutive sixes and in the process, brought up his half-century in just 17 balls! This was the fastest fifty in this edition of the IPL. The task wasn’t done yet and he knew it pretty well.
The big hitter continued batting in the aggressive mode till the last ball. Needing 4 off the last ball, he could manage just 2. With such a brilliant innings and attacking display of batting, Morris was unlucky to have finished on the losing side. He remained unbeaten on 82 off just 32 balls, with 8 sixes and 4 fours!
Twitter went absolutely berserk, just like Chris Morris did on the field, and praised the awe-inspiring knock of the South African all-rounder. Here are some of the best tweets:
