The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the upcoming away bilateral series against New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively. The squads comprised of the New Zealand ODIs and T20Is and the Bangladesh One Day Internationals and Tests.
While a few emerging players got an India call-up, one of the biggest names in emerging talents Prithvi Shaw has yet again been ignored in what seems to be rather unfortunate. Surprisingly, Shaw has not been included in either of the four squads.
Prithvi Shaw excluded for New Zealand and Bangladesh series
Prithvi Shaw has constantly been overlooked by the national selectors despite him performing consistently in the domestic circuit. Earlier this month, the youngster had grabbed headlines for scoring a 46-ball century against Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 match.
His knock powered Mumbai to a mammoth 230/3 which eventually helped the Ajinkya Rahane-led side come out on top by 61 runs. Despite that, he has once again been snubbed by the selectors as he patiently has to wait another day.
In fact, Shaw had also made it clear during one of his Instagram live sessions that he is simply tired of playing the waiting game. It so happened that when one of the fans asked the youngster when exactly he would be donning the India jersey again, a gutted Prithvi Shaw wrote, "Don't know my friend' indicating that he has lost his patience after repeatedly getting ignored even after showcasing outstanding performances.
Last month, India had fielded a second-string squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa and even though many familiar faces along with uncapped players got a chance to feature in the Indian squad, Prithvi Shaw's name was nowehere to be found on that list.
It now remains to be seen whether Prithvi makes his bat do the talking which he usually does and make a statement as the selection committee prepare a blueprint for the next year's 50-overs World Cup. Shaw has not played for India since the white-ball series in Sri Lanka in July 2021.
Here's how the netizens reacted to Prithvi Shaw's exclusion:
Stay strong @PrithviShaw you'll get your chance and when you do get make sure they can't drop you again.

If anyone needs to be dropped from Indian Cricket, its the selectors. There. I said it!
Why Prithvi Shaw is missing from all the while ball squad? Any specific reason @BCCI ?

Worst selection! No Prithvi Shaw or Sanju Samson again! K L Rahul somehow still finds a place inspite of worst performances recently... Rohit is being partial with Rahul i feel..

Absolutely ridiculous selection decision not to have @PrithviShaw Prithvi Shaw in any of the white ball squads. If there is an issue with him, @BCCI Need to come clean with it. Musical chairs going on in INDIAN TEAM SELECTION. No continuity and as usual experiments.

It must be more than cricketing reason becoz of which @PrithviShaw Shaw fails to get the selectors nod. Need to encourage and back a young talent like Shaw. He had failed miserably in that Adelaide test but everyone else did. @BCCI @chetans1987 @ImRo45

How many overs did Deepak Hooda bowl in the last match? And how many overs did he bowl in Asia Cup? He hasn't bowled a single over in the last 3 T20 matches he has played.

He's being picked as a batter in the squad ahead of Samson, Gill, Iyer & Prithvi Shaw.. which is laughable https://t.co/nfb6tFWsyd
