'Another Riyan Parag in making' - Twitter disappointed with Prithvi Shaw after another poor performance
Shaw got out for a duck against the Rajasthan Royals.
After a stunning show in IPL 2022 and a great domestic season with Mumbai, it was expected that Prithvi Shaw will keep up with the momentum. Notably, the youngster also showed his frustration after not getting a national call for several months and all this indicated that Shaw would be dedicated to make a difference in the ongoing season.
However, the reality is completely different at the moment. In three matches so far, the Mumbai-born cricketer has scored only 19 runs and things are not looking good for him and for the Delhi Capitals. Against the Rajasthan Royals, he was not a part of the playing XI and was introduced as an impact player. However, he failed to create any impact and got dismissed for a duck.
He failed this time against Trent Boult’s beautiful inswinger as wicketkeeper Sanju Samson picked a staggering catch to send Shaw back to the pavilion. Boult also dismissed Manish Pandey, who made his DC debut against Rajasthan, on the very next delivery.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan were mighty impressive with the bat as openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the team a perfect start with a stand of 98 runs. Youngster Jaiswal wreaked havoc, scoring 60 runs off 31 deliveries while Buttler played a well-calculated innings of 79 runs in 51 deliveries. Later, West Indies international Shimron Hetmyer chipped in well with an unbeaten 39 runs off 21 deliveries as Rajasthan posted a massive total of 199 runs.
Delhi needed a strong start with the bat, something that Shaw and Pandey failed to provide. In the final over of the powerplay, flamboyant batter Rilee Rossouw too got out rather cheaply, scoring 14 runs off 12 deliveries. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his wicket as Lalit Yadav joined David Warner to bail Delhi out of a difficult situation and help them register their first win of the IPL 2023 season.
