Shubman Gill has hit his second ODI century in the ongoing third One-Day International against Sri Lanka. The opening batter was preferred ahead of Ishan Kishan in this series. Perhaps, many had questioned Kishan's exclusion who had scored a double century in the previous game for India. But Rohit Sharma, the skipper, had cleared that Gill will get his chances in the Sri Lanka series.
And the youngster didn't disappoint at all. Moreover, he only got better as the series progressed and smashed a well deserved century in the final ODI of the series. Interestingly, Gill got off the mark only off the 10th delivery, and since then didn't look back. He smashed a couple of fluent cover drives off Kasun Rajitha to get going and then took on every Sri Lankan bowler who came in his way.
Gill put on 95 runs for the opening wicket with skipper Rohit and despite the latter getting dismissed, he didn't get perturbed. Virat Kohli's arrival in the middle only opened up Shubman Gill who played his shots on a pitch that has a wear and tear in it.
Gill got off to his ton in 89 balls
The pitch at the Greenfield International Stadium isn't the flattest and at times, the ball stayed low to put doubt in batters' minds. But Shubman Gill, at no stage, looked disturbed and made sure that he didn't miss out on a chance after missing in the series opener. He got to his century off just 89 balls and quiet celebrations followed by raising the bat and soaking in the applause from the crowd.
He eventually got out on 116 with Kasun Rajitha breaching his defence as the ball stayed low. Shubman Gill is certainly now a contender to become the Player of the Series now with a half-century and century to his name in the series. He got out early in the second ODI during the meagre chase at the Eden Gardens. But overall, the young player has certainly made a statement with ODI World Cup not far away. Meanwhile, the fans were delighted to see Gill live up to his potential in the third ODI vs Sri Lanka.

I love how Shubman Gill bows down to the audience after completing his 100. Love it as much as I love Kohli's aggressive jump celebration.
