Even though Virat Kohli has regained his form in white-ball cricket, a century in the longest format of the game is still due. The 34-year-old hit his last Test century against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in 2019 and has been struggling to get big scores in the longest format of the game since then.

Even though he showed glimpses of his class in the second Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli failed to make the most of it, after getting out on 44 in the first innings. Former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Gautam Gambhir have backed the Delhi-born cricketer as they believe that a big innings is just around the corner.

However, looking at his current state, Iceland Cricket took a subtle jibe at him and pointed out his long century drought in red-ball cricket. “This statistic won’t please many of our Indian fans, but it is now 23 Tests since Virat Kohli scored a century, which was back in 2019. How long is too long?” wrote Iceland Cricket on their Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, this remark did not go well with the Indian cricket fans as they defended Kohli. Some even pointed out that hitting a century is not the ultimate goal as he has scored a lot of centuries in the past.

This is how Twitter reacted -

Gambhir lauds Kohli for completing 25000 runs in international cricket

Former India opener Gambhir hailed Kohli after the latter became the fastest cricketer to reach 25000 runs in international cricket. He stated that scoring so much of runs is no joke and eventually hailed him for his consistency across the three formats of the game.

"Scoring 25,000 runs is no joke. He has seen a lot of ups and downs but has remained consistent. Your game goes through a lot of changes. Your stance changes, your technique changes, your strengths and weaknesses change, your mode of dismissals become different, your emotions change and if you can factor in all of that, control all these things and score these many runs then you are a great,” Gambhir quoted on Star Sports.
