‘Glimpses of class’ - Netizens react as Rohit Sharma provides Mumbai Indians with thunderous start against Gujarat Titans
Rohit Sharma scored 29 off 18.
The 57th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 12.
Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan looked to provide the five-time champions with a good start and the batters did just that. After subpar performances throughout the competition, skipper Rohit Sharma looked to be in good flow at the start of the game.
Having scored only 220 runs in 12 games in the IPL 2023 so far, Rohit took the attack straight to the bowling lineup of Gujarat as he scored 29 runs in 18 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes. However, the good start that Rohit provided was quickly cut short as Rashid Khan sent the skipper packing with the very first ball of the seventh over.
Furthermore, the ace Afghanistan spinner also dismissed Ishan Kishan off the fifth ball of the same over for 31 runs in 20 deliveries. After seeing Rohit’s knock, many fans took to Twitter to give their take on the skipper’s performance.
Mumbai Indians aim to register seventh win of the IPL 2023
After a rocky start to the IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians have made a resilient comeback in the competition. With 12 points in 11 matches, Mumbai find themselves in fourth place in the IPL points table. The five-time champions would be keen on winning their forthcoming matches to secure a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament. They are closely followed by Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings.
After winning three of their last four matches, Mumbai have been in good form recently, and they would look to further build upon their form in their clash against Gujarat and the remaining games as well.
