Bangladesh's Test series opener against visitors India at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium got off to a flying start after the hosts made light work of the Indian top order. India were in trouble after losing openers Shubman Gill and KL Rahul early in the innings, but it was the wicket of the in-form Virat Kohli for a solitary run that delighted the hosts.

After a disappointing ODI series loss against the visitors, India were eyeing a solid start in the Test series, which holds vital WTC points. However, their plans were halted in the morning session of the first Test as Bangladesh bowlers made merry on a rank turner.

Opening batters Shubman Gill and KL Rahul were guilty of playing loose shots that cost them their wickets, failing to capitalize on their decent start. But the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli fell prey to a delivery from Taijul Islam that spun away trapping him plumb in front of the wicket. Kohli even burned a review in hopes of overturning the decision.

It was the stand-in Indian skipper KL Rahul who won the toss and decided to bat first on a spin-friendly track in Chattogram. The visitors made a decent start to the game as both Gill, and Rahul were watchful initially. However, India slumped from 41/0 to 48/3 to hand the home side the advantage in the morning session of the series opener.

The Indian team turned a few heads after the team management decided to go with just two fast bowlers, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj for the first Test. The visitors opted for three spinning options Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav in the starting eleven. But given the early signs, India's ploy might pay dividends in the game.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Virat Kohli's poor outing in first innings of the series opener:
