‘Huge respect for inspiring young minds to get into cricket’ - Netizens extend warm wishes to Harmanpreet Kaur on her birthday
Harmanpreet Kaur turned 34 on March 8.
India and Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is celebrating her 34th birthday on March 8, 2023. She is currently one of the best batters going around and has proven herself to be a vital player for India in all three formats of the game.
Hailing from Punjab, the cricketer has represented India in 278 matches and has amassed 6418 runs in international cricket. She made her debut against Pakistan in March 2009 and since then, has been the centrepiece of India's batting lineup.
The middle-order batter is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League. Under her able leadership, the Mumbai-based team are currently at the top of the points table as Kaur finds herself in the sixth position on the list of the leading run scorers of the tournament.
Against Gujarat in the opening game of the tournament, the 34-year-old played some sensational cricket, scoring 65 off just 30 deliveries. Courtesy of her blistering innings, Mumbai Indians posted 207 runs on board after 20 overs and later, easily managed to win the match by 143 runs. In their second game, Mumbai once again emerged victorious as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets. Even though Harmanpreet didn’t get an opportunity to bat in that match, her captaincy skill was on display as Mumbai managed to get a huge win against one of the tournament favourites.
When it comes to Indian colours, Harmanpreet has led the team brilliantly. Under her captaincy, the team managed to qualify for the finals of the Commonwealth Games and also reached the semi-finals of the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Although India is yet to win any of the major trophies, Harmanpreet has instilled the belief that the team can go a long way in multilateral tournaments and an ICC trophy, therefore, doesn't seem to be very far.
She has led the team by example and has many records to her name in international cricket. The 34-year-old holds the record for most runs in an innings (by batting position) in ODI cricket (171* against Australia) and also of playing the most number of T20I matches in women’s cricket, among many others.
