'In a league of his own' - Twitter hails Faf du Plessis' splendid run in IPL 2023 as he sets Garden City ablaze with another fifty
Du Plessis scored 62(39), smashing eight fours and two sixes in his innings.
The first encounter of the Super Sunday in the Indian Premier League 2023 got underway on April 23 as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) went up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 32 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson won the toss and invited RCB to bat first.
RCB got off to the worst possible start as Trent Boult got the big fish Virat Kohli on the very first ball of the game, getting him out LBW. After losing his opening partner early, the pressure came onto Faf du Plessis, to get his team off to a flying start. He scored a couple of boundaries against Sandeep Sharma in the second over to get his innings going.
Du Plessis further smacked 16 runs in Sharma’s next over to take his team’s run rate past nine in the powerplay. After taking on the bowlers in the powerplay, the 38-year-old played second-fiddle to Glenn Maxwell, who was clobbering boundaries for fun at the other end.
The duo brought up their 100-run stand off just 54 balls to help their team recover after two early blows. Motoring along with Maxwell, du Plessis brought up his fifty in the 12th over of the innings with a boundary against Trent Boult, reaching the landmark in 31 balls.
Maxwell and du Plessis added 127 for the third wicket
After 13 overs, RCB were 135/1 with Maxwell on 65*(36) and du Plessis on 58*(37) as the duo looked to press on the accelerator. The 38-year-old made his intentions clear on the very first ball of the 14th over as he drove Sandeep Sharma for another boundary.
However, his innings was cut short by an excellent throw by Yashasvi Jaiswal from extra cover as he looked for a quick single on the second ball. As a result, du Plessis departed after scoring 62(39), smashing eight fours and two sixes in his innings.
After another brilliant knock, RCB's ace batter further strengthened his position at the top of the leading run-scorers chart with 405 runs to his name at an average of 67.50 and a strike rate of 165.31 scoring five fifties.
Meanwhile, Twitter was abuzz with reactions on another classy knock by du Plessis.
