The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday, December 27, named a young T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and the selectors called up several exciting youngsters who have proven themselves in the Indian Premier League.

After having a good season in domestic cricket, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included while Rahul Tripathi too found a place in the 16-member squad. Interestingly, Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar have been called up while Suryakumar Yadav will be seen as Hardik Pandya’s deputy in the series. 

Meanwhile, the fate of all the senior players in the shortest format is still a matter of discussion. Injured skipper Rohit Sharma will be missing the series along with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. 

Overall, this new approach has been appreciated by a major section of the fans. However, a few raised questions about Shubman Gill’s inclusion as Prithvi Shaw and Ravi Bishnoi’s name is once again missing from the list.
