Punjab Kings recorded a deserving 13-run win to end Mumbai Indians' three-match winning streak in the 31st Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) match on Saturday, April 22. Sam Curran's 55 off 29 and Harpreet Singh's 41 runs helped Punjab Kings score 214/8 while batting first. Then Arshdeep Singh bowled a match-winning spell of 4/29 to restrict Mumbai Indians to 201/6 to help Punjab Kings to a thrilling win at Mumbai's Wankede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first with both teams making one change to their playing eleven. Cameron Green proved his captain's decision to bowl first right with Matthew Short's early wicket in the third over. Young batters Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide added crucial runs to avoid slip-ups in the powerplay overs.

Arjun Tendulkar gave Mumbai Indians a breakthrough with Prabhsimran's wicket while Piyush Chawla took two wickets to add some pressure on Punjab Kings. But Curran and Harpreet accelerated the innings in the 16th over by smashing Arjun for 31 runs. Curran smashed his first fifty of IPL 2023, while Jitesh Sharma finished the game with a cameo knock of 25 off seven to help Punjab score a big total.

While chasing a mammoth target, Mumbai lost in-form opener Ishan Kishan in the second over. But Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green continued their good form with a 76-run stand for the second wicket. Liam Livingstone picked his first wicket this season in the form of Rohit who missed a half-century by only six runs.

Meanwhile, Green scored another fifty with a meaningful quick 75-run stand for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. Thereafter, Surya played an electrifying 57-run knock to keep MI in the game. Just when the duo were seemingly in a comfortable position to finish the game, Arshdeep Singh changed the game in the death overs. He first dismissed Suryakumar in the 18th over and took two back-to-back wickets in the last over to win two crucial points for the Punjab Kings.
