India’s batting innings against Pakistan in their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022 did not start in their favor as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were dismissed cheaply. While chasing a target of 160 runs, the two were dismissed very early in the powerplay, which brought misery to the Indian side.

In just the second over, pacer Naseem Shah got his side the crucial breakthrough by dismissing KL Rahul. Just when the team was sulking the early shock, Haris Rauf was introduced into the attack, and he did not disappoint as he scalped the priced wicket of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, and India was reduced to 10/2.

Last year’s World Cup also saw the opening batters being dismissed very early, but then Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli came to India’s rescue while batting first. KL Rahul’s dismissal was similar to how he was dismissed at the Asia Cup earlier this year. It was unfortunate as the ball hit the bat and the ground before ramming into the stumps and disturbing the bails.

Rauf bowled a 145kmph delivery, which edged Rohit Sharma’s bat and traveled towards the first slip, where Iftikhar Ahmed had been fielding. Ahmed dived forward and caught the ball beautifully and Rohit Sharma’s run with the bat came to an end.

After putting up a good bowling performance, Indian bowlers went on to concede some big runs in the second half which led to Pakistan put up a defendable target. And India losing two quick wickets meant added pressure on the middle-order batters.

But the two wickets were just not enough for the Pakistani bowlers as they kept the celebrations going by dismissing the in-form Suryakumar Yadav. Later, Axar Patel also perished after a terrible run-out, and India was lowered to 45/4 after 10 overs.

Speaking of the first innings, India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya played crucial roles as they scalped three wickets each. Pakistan also lost openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam early, but their middle-order batters held the game tight and notched up the crucial runs.
