One would normally expect batters of the calibre of Babar Azam to feast on a track as flat and favourable for batting as the track in Multan was during the first Test between Pakistan and England. However, he could not. His misery aggregated as his 30-run score on which he was dismissed by Chris Woakes, who was playing his Test in Asia after eight years, was the ace batter's 16th consecutive Test innings without a fifty-plus score. He also squandered a review in the hope of surviving, but the ball-tracking technology displayed otherwise.

The day was fantabulous for the hosts Pakistan otherwise, since their fresh skipper Shan Masood solidified his stance with a brilliant 151, and Abdullah Shafique too opened to end with three-figure mark against his name in the first innings. Babar Azam got the start he wanted, but like his outings so far in the ongoing WTC cycle, he failed to convert it into a milestone. This called for extreme criticism from netizens all round the world, trolling the ace batter left, right, and centre.

What exasperated the Pakistani supporters the most was the fact that not only did Babar get dismissed after another lukewarm outing, he did so on facing 71 deliveries. On the contrary, skipper Shan Masood made merry alongside Abdullah Shafique, both of whom registered respective centuries. Supporters from Pakistan and cricket fans in general took to social media to express their disappointment on what was yet another disappointing outing for the erstwhile skipper.
