During the LSG vs MI, match 48 of IPL 2024, a controversial moment arose when Ayush Badoni was given out for being inside the crease, but with his bat in the air. The incident occurred on the first ball of the 19th over when Hardik Pandya bowled a delivery to Badoni, who then slapped the cut past point for what seemed like a comfortable run. However, a sharp throw from the fielder at deep cover put pressure on the batsmen.

Ishan Kishan collected the ball cleanly but initially missed whipping the bails off. Meanwhile, Badoni, in an attempt to complete the run, dived to reach the crease. However, his dive was clumsy, causing his bat to pop up in the air as he landed. Although Badoni's body had crossed the crease, his bat remained airborne, making it a contentious situation.

Badoni was visibly shocked by the decision, indicating that he believed his bat had touched the ground inside the crease. However, the third umpire was called upon to review the incident. After careful examination, it was determined that despite Badoni's bat being inside the crease, it was indeed in the air when the bails were dislodged.

The decision sparked debates among fans, commentators, and cricket experts alike. While some argued that the third umpire's decision was correct as per the laws of the game, others felt it was harsh on Badoni, especially considering the circumstances of his dismissal. Nonetheless, the incident added an element of drama to the match, highlighting the fine margins and the importance of precision in cricket.

Soon social media users began reacting with memes to what seemed a not-out to the naked eye. On repetitive viewing, however, it can be seen that the bat was on air. The memes included the usual 'umpire Indians' argument by the fans referring to a conspiracy theory which says Mumbai Indians work hand in hand with the umpires.
