The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan game in the Asia Cup 2023 got washed out on Saturday, September 2 due to incessant rain at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele. There were dark clouds hovering over the much-awaited clash, however, the forecast slightly improved a day ahead of the game to give fans hopes of seeing the Asian heavyweights locking horns with each other.
Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision, however, backfired as Pakistan’s seamers made full use of the overcast conditions and reduced India to 66/4 after 14.1 overs. But a brilliant 138-run stand between Hardik Pandya (87 off 90) and Ishan Kishan (82 off 81) helped India post a decent total of 266 in 48.5 overs.

After the first innings, there was no more play possible as the heavens opened up and crushed the hopes of millions of fans all around the world to see a complete India-Pakistan game. As a result, points were shared between the two teams and Pakistan climbed to the top spot in Group A with three points from two matches. On the other hand, India took the second spot with one point from one game.
The Men in Blue will now face Nepal in a must-win encounter on Monday, September 4 at the same venue. The Rohit Sharma-led side will have to win or tie the game against Nepal to qualify for the Super 4 stages. Meanwhile, Pakistan have already qualified to the next stage of the tournament.
Shaheen Afridi's four-fer brought India down to their knees
Coming back to India’s innings, Shaheen Afridi once again wreaked havoc with the ball as he picked up 4/35 in his ten-over spell. His four-fer included prized scalps of Rohit Sharma (11), Virat Kohli (4), Hardik Pandya (87) and Ravindra Jadeja (14). Afridi got good support from Haris Rauf (3/58, 9 overs) and Naseem Shah (3/36, 8.5 overs).
Meanwhile, X was abuzz with reactions from fans who were robbed of an action-packed India vs Pakistan game.
