T20 World Cup 2024: PAK vs IRE, Match 36 Highlights: Unmissable video recap, turning points, match analysis, stats, and more
Pakistan end T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a hard-fought win against Ireland.
Pakistan finished their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a hard-fought three-wicket win against Ireland at the CBRP Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday, June 17.
Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch that had a good amount of moisture because it was under the covers for the last few days. Pakistan opened with their two left-arm seamers, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Amir and they ran through the Ireland batting with an excellent display of swing bowling. Ireland lost their first six wickets for just 32 runs in the seventh over.
In dire straits, Ireland were in desperate need of a partnership and Gareth Delany and Mark Adair provided it. They added 44 runs off 30 balls for the seventh wicket to help Ireland muster some sort of a fightback. However, the European side lost three wickets for four runs to find themselves at 80/9 at the end of the 14th over. The last-wicket pair of Benjamin White and Joshua Little showed great courage under pressure and batted the remaining six overs, adding 26 runs. Paul Stirling's men eventually finished with a score of 106/9 in their 20 overs.
Shaheen and Imad Wasim were the pick of the bowlers, bagging three wickets apiece. Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir bagged a couple and Haris Rauf chipped in with one wicket in what was a polished bowling display from the 2009 champions.

Pakistan got off to a sedate start as Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan added 23 runs off 25 balls before the former was dismissed for 17. Rizwan departed for the same score in the following over as Pakistan finished the powerplay with a score of 40/2.
Pakistan were cruising towards a win but they lost four wickets for 10 runs to find themselves struggling at 62/6 in 11 overs. Young Abbas Afridi played a fine knock alongside captain Babar and added 33 runs off 40 balls for the seventh wicket.
Abbas was eventually dismissed in the 18th over for a well-made 21-ball 17. Pakistan still required 12 runs off 14 balls for a win at that stage. Shaheen walked out to the crease and hit two sixes in the 19th over to take his team home. Babar played the anchor's role to perfection, remaining unbeaten on 32 off 34 balls, as Pakistan won by three wickets, with seven balls in the bank.
