Bangladesh and Sri Lanka took on each other in the much-anticipated encounter at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Both sides faced off in game 15 of the tournament at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, June 8. The clash began with Sri Lanka coming in to bat first losing the toss.
The side got off to a good start as opener Pathum Nissanka scored 47 runs in 28 deliveries. However, after the decent boost, none of the other batters could amount to much. Kusal Mendis departed for 10 runs, Kamindu Mendis scored just four runs, and Dhananjaya de Silva added 21 runs on the board.
Furthermore, Charith Asalanka amassed 19 runs to his name, with Angelo Mathews scoring 16. Bangladesh did a commendable job of limiting Sri Lanka to a subpar total in the first innings.

Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain were the pick of the bowlers for the Bangla Tigers in the first innings, with three wickets each. Taskin Ahmed took two wickets, along with Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who struck once, as Sri Lanka posted a total of 124/9 in the first innings.
Aiming to chase down the target of 125, Shanto's men got off to a horrid start as openers Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar departed for three and zero runs, respectively. Litton Das stabilised the innings for Bangladesh after a shaky start, scoring 36 runs in 38 deliveries.
Furthermore, Towhid Hridoy scored 40 runs in 20 deliveries, with Mahmudullah staying unbeaten on a score of 16 runs as Bangladesh chased down the target in 19 overs, winning the game by two wickets.
As for Sri Lanka, Nuwan Thushara was the highest wicket taker for his side, with four wickets to his name. Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets, with Dhananjaya de Silva and Matheesha Pathirana striking once each, but it still was not enough to propel Sri Lanka over the line.
