The Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas played host to the USA locking horns with Canada on June 1. Opting to field first at a venue where the first T20I was being played, the Monank Patel-led side opted to field first. A couple of half-centuries from the right-hand-left-hand combination of Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton, as well as a late blitz from Canada's wicketkeeper-batter, Shreyas Movva, racked up a more-than-competitive total of 194/5 in their quota.

The situation appeared uphill when the co-host's opening batters were dismissed for low scores. Nonetheless, an extraordinary display of batting from Andries Gous and Aaron Jones turned the tide. Jones, in particular, was extraordinarily splendid, finishing on 94*, sealing the victory with a six. The emphatic seven-wicket triumph, achieved with twice as many deliveries remaining, provided the USA with an excellent commencement to their campaign.

1) Corey Anderson's comeback: A marvel to shout about

The erstwhile New Zealander, who represented the Kiwis from 2012 to 2017, was playing his first T20 World Cup after eight long years. Remarkably, he secured a wicket with his very first delivery on his return to the marquee event, dismissing the well-set Dhaliwal for 61 off 44.

2) Gous and Jones - Turning stones with third-wicket tones

Vice-captain for the USA, Jones, who joined Gous in the middle with the score at 42/2 in 6.3 overs, had an uphill task to achieve in pursuit of a steep 195. However, both of them played marvellously, their partnership including an eventful 33-run over off Jeremy Gordon in the 14th over of the chase to bring the equation to a run-a-ball.

3) Canada's extras score soar with wides galore

While the 10 extras conceded by the USA in the first innings appeared somewhat excessive, Canada’s performance was strikingly deteriorated, giving away a staggering 19 extras. This included an overwhelming 14 runs from wides alone.

Below are some more highlights from the USA's seven-wicket triumph over Canada
