'Thank You JioCinema for a never before IPL experience' - fans go berserk as JioCinema crashes during IPL opening match
Several fans took to Twitter to report the poor condition of JioCinema's live feed during the opening clash between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
On the opening day of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, viewers cited inconvenience while accessing the live feed of the broadcast disseminated by JioCinema. Viacom, JioCinema's parent media body, had earlier bagged the digital broadcasting rights of the cash-rich league for five years by paying a whopping 23,758 crore. Viacom will continue to enjoy digital broadcasting rights till 2027.
Viewers took to Twitter to register their outrage against JioCinema during the much-anticipated clash between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. While many viewers claimed that the network had been down since morning, others asked Jio to focus on its services more than experimenting with interactive camera angles.
With Disney Star network acquiring the television broadcast rights for rs. 23,575 crore, it has happened for the first time that the IPL in India is being broadcasted by two separate companies.
Notably, such complaints were also rampant during the 2022 FIFA World Cup which too was digitally broadcasted in India by JioCinema.
