'The Shaw must go on' - Twitter erupts as Prithvi Shaw silences critics with blistering knock against Punjab Kings
Shaw hit 54 off 38 deliveries against PBKS.
Flamboyant opener Prithvi Shaw finally made his return to the playing XI and made an instant impact in the match against Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL 2023 on May 17 in Dharmsala. He failed to get going in the first six games and the Delhi Capitals management decided to drop him from the playing XI. However, he made his return and looked ruthless in the middle, scoring his first half-century of the season.
The 23-year-old replaced Australia international Mitchell Marsh, who was ruled out of the match due to an injury. Replacing him, Shaw made the most of the opportunity and made an emphatic comeback in the league to silence his critics. DC skipper David Warner too looked brilliant in the middle but Shikhar Dhawan's brilliance sent him back to the pavilion.
Along with Shaw, Warner built a 94-run partnership, which might eventually decide the fate of the match. The southpaw notably hit 46 runs off 31 deliveries before Sam Curran provided the much-needed breakthrough to PBKS. Meanwhile, Warner was dropped by Rahul Chahar but the 36-year-old could not last much long after the life he recieved.
Even though Delhi are currently out of the playoffs race, they can ruin Punjab’s journey as well. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side currently have 12 points in 12 matches and if they win their remaining two, they can fight for a spot in the playoffs. However, if they lose a game, their race to playoffs will get complicated as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians can go ahead of them.
