Twitter Reactions: Bangladesh extend their domination, set 662-run target on Day 3 in solitary Test against Afghanistan

Bangladesh kept their domination intact as they set a humongous 662-run target against Afghanistan on Day 3, in the One-off Test, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, in Mirpur.

At the close of Day 2, Bangladesh maintained a 370-run lead as Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto registered an unbeaten 54 off 64 balls each to get 134 runs in the third innings. On Day 3, Zakir was sent packing early after scoring 71 off 95 balls which featured eight boundaries to his name. 

On the other hand, Najmul remained steady on the crease and carved out a majestic century which kept the Bangla Tigers in a commanding position. The southpaw cracked 15 boundaries in his 151-ball 124 before he headed back to the dugout.

In the middle order, Mominul Haque took charge of the innings and smoked 12 fours and a solitary six in his unbeaten 121 off 145 balls. He further combined to raise an unbroken 143-run stand with skipper Litton Das to steer Bangladesh towards a 400-plus total. 

Skipper Litton too remained unbeaten as he got 66 off 81 balls, which included eight boundaries. With this, the Bangla Tigers concluded with 425 runs before declaring their innings. Meanwhile, Zahir Khan got two scalps in his account, whereas Amir Hamza got one under his belt as Bangladesh set a humongous 662-run target.

With a massive uphill task, the Afghan openers – Ibrahim Zadran and Abdul Malik quickly succumbed under pressure and were sent packing for under 10 runs in just three overs. Furthermore, Afghanistan were handed another blow in the form of the Afghan skipper, Hashmatullah Shahidi, as he headed back to the dugout, retired hurt.  

Eventually, Afghanistan concluded with 45 runs at the close of Day 3 with Nasir Jamal and Rahmat Shah still on the crease. While Bangladesh are well-placed to clinch the One-off Test, it remains to be seen if Afghanistan can give the home side a run for their money on Day 4, as they need 617 runs to win.
