Hosts Pakistan (PAK) took on visitors Bangladesh (BAN) in the first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, in Rawalpindi. Pakistan posted 448 runs after being asked to bat first and declared with four wickets remaining. Bangladesh gave a fitting reply notching up 565 runs on the back of Mushfiqur Rahim’s 191 off 341. Moreover, the visitors took a lead of 117 runs.

Pakistan trailing the deficit, lost Saim Ayub at the end of Day 4 and the game seemed to be moving toward a potential Draw. Other than Mohammad Rizwan who dazzled in the first innings, Saud Shakeel (141), and Saim Ayub (56) were the only batters crossed the 40-run mark. In the second innings as well, the wicket-keeper batter scored 56 runs while Abdullah Shafique’s 37-run knock was the second-highest.

For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz created havoc with his four-fer and the former skipper, Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with a three-fer. The hosts were bundled out for 146 runs within 56 overs and the Bangla Tigers needed just 30 runs to own the Rawalpindi Test on Day 5. Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam had all the time in the world to accrue less than three dozen runs.

As the second session was in progress, they reached the 22-run mark in just five over with eight runs to win the game. Shan Masood stuck with Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Agha Salman as the bowling options and the shoulders were down palpably. The duo took nine more balls to reach the score of 30 and Bangladesh became the first visiting team to outclass Pakistan by 10 wickets in their backyard. Moreover, this was the first Test win for Bangladesh against Pakistan as they took the lead (1-0) in the Test series.
