Twitter Reactions: Batters' carnage in Mohali propels LSG to whopping 257-5 against PBKS
Marcus Stoinis starred with 72 runs off 40 balls as LSG batters carved out a monumental first innings to put up 257 runs on the board.
In the Match No. 38 of the IPL 2023 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the KL Rahul-led side played one of the most breathtaking innings of the ongoing season to notch up a massive score of 257/5 on the board at the end of their allotted 20 overs. In the match held at Mohali's Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, home team captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and that's all that had gone their way in the first half.
Batting first, although KL Rahul attempted to silence his critics by accelerating at the onset, he could only survive nine deliveries before falling prey to Kagiso Rabada. However, it was his in-form opening partner Kyle Mayers, who brought up yet another half-century to spearhead a fiery start for the visitors. He scored 54 off just 24 deliveries with the help of seven fours and four maximums. He was ably assisted in his carnage by youngster Ayush Badoni who played as many deliveries to score 43 runs. His brilliant knock included three fours and equinumerous sixes.
With both Mayers and Badoni eventually dismissed by Rabada and Liam Livingstone, respectively, star allrounder Marcus Stoinis took the command of LSG's batting and slammed six fours and five sixes to notch up 72 runs off just 40 balls to help LSG cruise past the 200-run mark. Nicholas Pooran then added more fire to the already raging innings to bring up the second-highest IPL total of all time (Highest this season so far).
The duo added 76 runs off just 29 balls to almost run away with the innings. Pooran scored 45 runs off 19 deliveries before being trapped lbw by Arshdeep Singh. His quickfire innings included seven fours and a maximum. Riding on the monumental knocks by the batters, LSG shattered records to register the second-highest total of IPL history, bringing up a mammoth 257/5 to swing the match in their favour.
