Swapnil Kusale became the first Indian shooter to bag an Olympic medal in the 50m Rifle 3P event.
India is on a Bronze Medal spree at the Paris Olympics 2024 as Swapnil Kusale clinched his first Olympic Bronze Medal in 50m rifle 3P shooting. It is worth noting that, the 50m rifle shooting event Swapnil took part in comprised of aiming at the target in three different positions, Kneeling, Prone and Standing. The 28-year-old managed a combined score of 451.4 in six rounds to bag his maiden Olympic medal.
For the unversed, each position requires a shooter to fire numerous shots while adhering to the time limit provided earlier. China’s Liu Yukun secured the Gold Medal with a score of 463.6 and the Silver Medal was secured by Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish. This was the third Bronze Medal for India after Manu Bhaker bagged one in the 10m Pistol individual shooting event and added one more in the mixed team version.
Speaking of Swapnil’s performance, he scored 153.3 points during the kneeling stage and maintained the sixth position. He upped the ante during the prone stage, scoring 310.1, and maintained the fourth position as the third spot was 0.6 points away. He stuck to the fourth position after standing stage but the elimination round proved a game changer. He eventually secured 141.3 in the elimination round to secure the third spot.

Swapnil has delivered impressive performances before flourishing in the ongoing Olympics. He fetched gold and silver medals in individual and mixed team events at the Baku and New Delhi World Cups. He grabbed Bronze in the team event at the Cairo World Championships. Moreover, he secured the fourth position at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023. Before his appearance in the final, he was the first Indian to reach the finals of the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event and he turned it into a memorable one.
