The cricket fraternity warmly wished ace India pacer, Mohammed Shami, as the speedster turned 34 on Tuesday, September 03.

Shami has been out of action for a few months as has been recovering from ankle surgery. Known for his lethal pace and ability to swing the ball both ways, Shami has been an integral part of the Indian cricket team since making his debut in 2013.

Shami had a memorable ODI debut against Pakistan in New Delhi where he bowled nine overs and conceded just 23 runs, and claimed one wicket, while also bowling four maidens.

Just 10 months after his ODI debut, Shami made his Test debut against the West Indies at his home ground, Eden Gardens. He made an immediate impact, picking up nine wickets, which included a five-wicket haul in the second innings.

Over the years, Shami has become one of the finest fast bowlers in the world and has been a huge part of India's success in all formats. His performance in ICC tournaments has been noteworthy, with memorable contributions in all three ODI World Cups (2015, 2019, and 2023).

One of Shami’s standout performances came during the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium.

Defending a total of 397, Shami ran through New Zealand’s batting lineup, claiming seven wickets and ensuring India’s place in the final. Playing seven matches, Shami ended as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 24 wickets to his name. Another highlight was his hat-trick against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup, where he single-handedly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for India.
