Twitter Reactions: England clinch impressive 26-run win against India in 3rd T20I to stay alive in the series
England beat India by 26 runs at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
Visitors England made a comeback in the third T20I at Rajkot in a do-or-die match against the Men in Blue. The series is now at 2-1, with two games left to be played in Pune and Mumbai, respectively.
The England innings started with a little bit of promise despite the early wicket of Philip Salt. Jos Buttler and Ben Duckett formed an important partnership for the team for the second wicket where Duckett also brought up his second half-century in T20Is scoring 51 off 28 deliveries. However, the game completely changed with a magical spell by Varun Chakravarthy who took his second five-wicket haul in T20Is with figures of 5/24 in four overs. In the end, the England innings ended on 171-9 with a half-century from Duckett and the quickfire cameo from Liam Livingstone (43 off 24).
The Indian innings also did not go to plan losing half their side on the score of 85 in 12.1 overs. The Indian team at one stage had a huge mountain to climb at the end of 15 overs needing 72 off the last 30 balls of the match. India star all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel were at the crease.
This turned out to be too much for the lower order and the Indian innings was finally restricted to 145-9. England went on to win the game by 26 runs and keep their chances alive in the series. The England bowlers got the better of the Indian batters who were struggling to get going in the match.
Chakravarthy’s fifer goes in vain
This was perhaps one of the best spells from Varun Chakravarthy where he again proved to be a problem for the England batters in the middle overs. The 33-year-old mystery spinner was tough to pick for the England players once again as he continued foxing the likes of Jos Buttler, Jamie Overton, and Jamie Smith who could be dangerous batters once they get going.
On a rare occasion, Chakravarthy was also adjudged the player of the match which normally goes to the player from the winning side. This spell takes his tally to 10 wickets from the three games he has played in the series so far at an average of 8.50.
