Twitter Reactions: England clinch series 2-1 to continue home dominance

England clinched the three-match Test series against South Africa by 2-1. The Test was wrapped up inside three days despite the first day getting completely washed out and the bowlers enjoyed the seamer-friendly conditions.  

Earlier in the Test, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss and South Africa were bundled out for just 118 runs courtesy of a superb bowling spell from Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad. Marco Jansen was the top scorer with 30 in the first innings while Robinson picked up a five-wicket haul.

In the second innings, England were in a comfortable position until wickets started to fall in a quick succession and it meant that the hosts had to surrender for 158. Ollie Pope (67) was quite impressive with the bat while none of the other batters could stick around for long. Jansen picked up a five-wicket haul for the South African side while he got good support from Kagiso Rabada who bagged four wickets.  

Trailing by 40 runs, South Africa did show a better batting effort in their second innings with both openers getting starts. However, the lack of runs from the middle order meant that the Proteas were wrapped up for 169. Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes were the pick of the bowlers for England with three wickets each and England were set a target of 130 to win the Test and the series.  

Their openers went off the blocks quickly and Zak Crawley played with aggressive intent. Alex Lees and Crawley put on a partnership of 108 for the first wicket and it was just a formality after that as England ended up winning the Test with nine wickets in hand. Crawley remained unbeaten on 69 off 57 deliveries with 12 fours.

This series has displayed how pathetic test batting standards have become. Obviously the conditions and the pitch were supporting bowlers.
You don't expect England to bat long with their fragile lineup but SA also disappointed me with such timid batting display #ENGvSA
