Jofra Archer returned to Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the Sanju Samson-led side acquired his services during the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for INR 12.50 crore on Sunday, November 24.

Archer had been signed by the Royals ahead of IPL 2018 for INR 7.20 crore. He spent four seasons at the franchise, picking up 46 wickets from 35 matches at an average of 21.32 and an economy rate of 7.13. The England seamer was roped in by Mumbai Indians for INR 8 crore in the previous mega auction ahead of IPL 2022.

The right-arm pacer missed the first season in the three-year cycle due to an elbow injury but returned to action for the five-time champions in IPL 2023. However, he could only play five games as injuries hampered his progress. Archer conceded runs at an economy rate of 9.50 and picked up only two wickets for Mumbai. He was eventually released by Mumbai ahead of IPL 2024.

Archer pulled out of IPL 2024 due to a recurring injury issue. However, he made his international comeback during England's white-ball series against Pakistan earlier this year and also played in the T20 World Cup. Interestingly, his name did not feature in the shortlist sent by IPL to the franchises last weekend. However, his addition was informed informally to the franchises on Thursday, November 21.

Archer, who was a part of the first set of fast bowlers (Set 6), joined the Royals after the inaugural champions managed to win a bidding war against Mumbai Indians. Mumbai and Lucknow Super Giants started the bidding for the 29-year-old before the latter backed out at INR 8.25 crore. Rajasthan entered the fray and came up trumps to bag the experienced campaigner.

Archer has played six ODIs and 14 T20Is this year. He has picked up five and 17 wickets, respectively. In his T20 career, Archer has bagged 197 wickets from 158 games at an average of 22.78. He will look to make a solid impact for the Royals in the impending season.
