Twitter Reactions: Lahore Qalandars' formidable run continues after win against Multan Sultans
Lahore won their fifth consecutive match in the ongoing PSL.
Lahore Qalandars extended their dominance as they obtained their fifth consecutive win after emerging victorious against Multan Sultans by 21 runs. The top two sides of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) locked horns at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in Match 20 on Saturday, March 4.
The Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore won the toss and decided to put up a competitive total on board. However, the side lost opener Fakhar Zaman on the third ball of the contest which handed a minor scare. Abdullah Shafique, who came in the middle order stitched an important 50-run partnership with Mirza Baig to revive the innings.
Shafique got the occasional boundaries and scored 48 runs off 35 balls which included six fours and one maximum before getting dismissed by Kieron Pollard. Soon after his dismissal, Sam Billings joined the party and got the big runs.
Billings scored a quick half-century (54 off 35 balls) which steered the side to put up 180 runs on the board in their stipulated 20 overs of the match. Meanwhile, Ihsanullah, Anwar Ali, Abbas Afridi, and Pollard scalped two wickets each in the innings.
Lahore sink Multan in run chase
Chasing 181 was never going to an easy task, however, it was not too difficult either considering the batting line-up Multan possesses. While the side started off with a decent partnership carved out between openers Shan Masood and skipper Mohammad Rizwan, the duo failed to convert it into a big score.
Zaman Khan drew first blood as he got the vital scalp of Masood and broke the vital 48-run stand. Soon after, Rizwan joined him in the dug-out as did Usama Mir, Rilee Rossouw, and explosive hitter David Miller.
The middle-order collapse swiftly tilted the momentum in favour of Qalandars. Rashid Khan played an instrumental role in demolishing the middle order and thereby helping his side get ahead.
While Multan pinned their hopes on veteran star Pollard, the batter was unable to strike the ball with ease as he did in his prime. With pressure mounting, Multan eventually collapsed and thereby handed a major win to the defending champions by 21 runs.
