Twitter Reactions: Pakistan set 138 for England to clinch T20 World Cup 2022
Sam Curran's three-wicket haul helped England restrict Pakistan to 137 for 8.
A flurry of wickets towards the end of the innings meant that Pakistan reached just 137 for 8 in their 20 overs in the T20 World Cup 2022 final against England at the MCG. Earlier in the game, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the Pakistan openers looked quite tentative in the powerplay.
Sam Curran’s outstanding tournament with the ball continued. He got the early breakthrough of Mohammad Rizwan as the latter got out after hitting just one six in his 14-ball 15.
Mohammad Haris struggled to get going with his 12-ball eight and it was down to skipper Babar Azam and Shan Masood to up the ante. The duo added a partnership of 39 for the third wicket and helped restore things back for the Men in Green. Masood got going straightaway as he hit a four and a six early in his innings and enhanced the scoring rate while Babar joined late in the party.
Adil Rashid, who bowled an excellent spell in the previous game against India yet again stepped up and got the big fish, Babar (32 off 28 balls). Iftikhar Ahmed came to the crease with the side needing a good partnership desperately, however, the right-hander could not make much of a difference and bagged a six-ball duck.
Pakistan lose plot after losing wickets in a hurry
All-rounder Shadab Khan arrived at the crease with Pakistan in all spots of bother and a lot of responsibility relied on his shoulders. Masood and Shadab played some good shots in their 36-run partnership however the period was short lived as England came back strongly in the final overs. Curran picked up the important wicket of Masood for 38 runs while Shadab followed him in the very next over for a 14-ball 20.
The runs dried up considerably towards the end with Curran ensuring England had the upper hand. Jordan kept the standards high in the last few overs and Pakistan certainly ended up at least 20 runs short of what they should have got. Curran was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 12 in his four-over spell while Rashid and Jordan were quite good too.
