The SuperSport Park in Centurion witnessed a low-scoring thriller on January 25 as Pretoria Capitals restricted Sunrisers Eastern Cape to successfully defended 126, winning by three runs.

The defending champions opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Phil Salt played an exhilarating cameo of 20 runs off nine balls but the other batters struggled to find their rhythm. The Capitals lost half their side inside the PowerPlay, with 52 runs on the board.

Jimmy Neesham (27 off 26) and Shane Dadswell (24 off 26) formed a crucial 52-run partnership off 46 balls to take Pretoria to the three-figure mark. However, both the players were dismissed in quick succession as the Capitals couldn't finish strongly, eventually getting bowled out for 125 in 18.3 overs.

Aiden Markram and Co. would have been happy with their bowling effort. However, the batters couldn't back it up. They managed to score just 41 runs for the loss of four wickets in the first 10 overs. Patrick Kruger (22 off 21) and Tristan Stubbs (35 off 30) tried to resurrect the innings with a 40-run partnership. However, Pretoria skipper Wayne Parnell struck twice in the 15th over and brought his team back into the game.

From 72/4, the Sunrisers slipped to 102/9, needing 24 runs to win off the last 10 deliveries. Liam Dawson kept the batting team in the hunt with some lusty blows during his unbeaten knock of 29 off 16 balls. Four runs were needed off the last ball of the game, bowled by Daryn Dupavillon, when he attempted the scoop but failed to connect.

Pretoria registered their a win after two back-to-back losses and pulling off a low-scoring tie will give Parnell and Co. a lot of confidence. Meanwhile, Markram's men will look to bounce back in their next game against MI Cape Town on Saturday, January 27.
