Twitter Reactions: Prithvi Shaw's blistering 46-ball century helps Mumbai reach 230-3

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is going on in great for plenty of players participating in the tournament, but one young star who rejoiced the most on Friday, October 14, was Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw. The young batter, who had earlier said that his focus was on the tournament completely, proved his words by amassing a brilliant 46-ball century against Assam.

Assam won the toss and put Mumbai to bat first. Shaw opened the innings for his team alongside Aman Khan. The two started off well, but Aman lost his wicket early in the fourth over after hitting two fours and a six. Shaw and top-order batter Yashasvi Jaiswal anchored the innings after the setback and shared a massive 114-run partnership for the second wicket.

Prithvi Shaw maintained his good form and went on to smash a fifty off just 19 deliveries, The right-hander hammered Assam's bowling assault and played a variety of strokes to propel his team to a big start. He kept finding the gaps and sent the ball for fours a sixes, and brilliantly compiled a century off just 46 deliveries.

Skipper Shaw ended his innings with the bat scoring a 61-ball 134, hammering 13 fours and a whopping nine sixes while maintaining a strike rate of 219.67. He punished Assam bowlers Mrinmoy Dutta and Roshan Alam by hitting them for 37 and 36 runs respectively. Notably, more than 75% of Shaw’s total score has come off boundaries.

Thanks to Prithvi Shaw’s heroics for the majority of the game, followed by Shivam Dube’s cameo of an unbeaten 7-ball 17* in the end, which included two fours and a six, Mumbai managed to end their innings at 230/3, thereby setting a massive target for Assam to chase. Shaw’s knock was a special one for him, as he notched up his maiden hundred in the format.

Prithvi Shaw has been very consistent of late and showed great potential while playing for India A in the unofficial games against New Zealand A. Even after giving his best in the recent past, Shaw failed to make a place in India’s squad for the recently-concluded ODI series against South Africa at home. Speaking of the snub, Shaw had revealed that was disappointed for not getting the callup, further adding that he had shifted his focus to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
