Twitter Reactions: Rajasthan crush Kolkata to inch closer to playoffs
Rajasthan Royals chased down the target of 150 in just 13.1 overs and won the match by nine wickets.
The exhilarating action continued in IPL 2023 as Kolkata Knight Riders hosted Rajasthan Royals in match 56 on Thursday, May 11 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson won the toss and invited KKR to bat first. The decision was vindicated by Trent Boult who dismissed the dangerous Jason Roy in the third over courtesy of a sensational grab by Shimron Hetmyer at deep square leg.
Boult further dismissed the other opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the fifth over who hit one straight to Sandeep Sharma at mid-off. Following their dismissals, Nitish Rana (22 off 17) and Venkatesh Iyer added 48 runs for the third wicket.
Their partnership was broken by Yuzendra Chahal who dismissed Rana in the 11th over of the innings. Notably, it was Chahal’s 184th wicket of his IPL career and he became the leading wicket-taker in the tournament’s history surpassing Dwayne Bravo.
KKR further lost Andre Russell (10 off 10) cheaply as KM Asif got him dismissed caught at point. Chahal returned in the 17th over and got rid of a well-set Iyer (57 off 42). He further dismissed Shardul Thakur (1 off 2) and Rinku Singh (16 off 18) to derail KKR’s innings. The wrist-spinner finished his spell with 4/25 in four overs and helped his side restrict KKR to 149/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Jaiswal's sensational 98 helps RR register comprehensive victory
In reply, RR started their innings in emphatic fashion as Yashasvi Jaiswal clobbered Nitish Rana for 26 runs in the first over itself. KKR got their first success in the form of Jos Buttler (0 off 3) in the second over. However, there was no one stopping the carnage from Jaiswal with the 21-year-old racing to his half-century off just 13 balls and registering the fastest fifty in the history of IPL.
Jaiswal (98* off 47) and Sanju Samson (48* off 29) added 121 runs off 69 balls and sucked the juice out of KKR's bowling attack. As a result, RR chased down the target in 13.1 overs and won the match by nine wickets.
