Twitter Reactions: Rajasthan Royals get back to winning ways, keep Delhi Capitals struggling for first win
RR won the contest by 57 runs.
Delhi Capitals were handed their third consecutive defeat of the season at the hands of Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs.
Upon winning the toss, Delhi Capitals’ David Warner decided to put the rival team to bat first. The decision soon backfired as the opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler played out scintillating knocks to hand Rajasthan a terrific start in the first innings of the contest.
Jaiswal breathed fire as he slammed 60 runs off mere 31 balls which included 11 boundaries and one maximum. In addition to the fiery knock, the southpaw raised a magnificent 98-run partnership with English batter Jos Buttler.
However, Mukesh Kumar drew curtains on Jaiswal’s innings after the latter’s breath-taking knock. Despite the wicket, Buttler took the onus of getting the big runs and got his fifty off just 32 balls and cruised towards a maiden century this season.
Delhi tilted momentum for a brief point as they dismissed Samson and Riyan Parag cheaply. In came Shimron Hetmyer, who slammed a quickfire 21-ball 39*, which included four maximums and one four while Buttler was dismissed towards the end of the innings for 79 runs which included 11 fours and one six.
RR wrapped up their innings with 199 runs on the board as Mukesh got two wickets whereas Kuldeep Yadav and Rovman Powell got one wicket apiece.
Skipper David Warner fights hard during chase
The equation was quite clear for the Capitals as David Warner and Co. required a brisk start to stay on course in the chase. However, Kiwi pacer Trent Boult seemed to have other ideas as he swiftly dented the chase, getting wickets of Impact Player Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey off consecutive balls and also returned a maiden in the first over.
Though Warner and Lalit Yadav raised a 64-run partnership, the fall of wickets at regular intervals hampered their asking run rate which further led to their downfall. Samson introduced spin quite early on in the chase which paid him dividends as Ashwin and Chahal got five wickets between them.
Warner registered a delicate fifty but was unable to strike the ball cleanly. As the asking rate kept shooting up, Delhi eventually succumbed under pressure thereby handing a win to Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs.
