Rilee Rossouw smashed the first century of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 to guide South Africa to a huge 205/5 total while batting first against Bangladesh. The left-handed batter smashed 109 runs off 56 balls to score his first T20 World Cup century and second T20I hundred this month. Quinton de Kock also posted 63 runs off 38 balls as the Proteas set to target a big win against Bangladesh.

After seeing the first Super 12 game abandoned due to rain, the frustrated South African side decided to bat first in their second tournament fixture at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday (October 27). Both South Africa and Bangladesh brought in one extra spin option into their playing eleven but that didn't help the Asian side in Sydney.

The in-form right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed dismissed Bavuma on the last ball of the first over to give Bangladesh the start they needed. But Rossouw, playing at number three, joined in-form opener De Kock to bring in misery on Bangladeshi bowlers from the start. The Proteas smashed 21 runs in the third over off Taskin to make their intentions clear and dominated the bowlers throughout the innings.

Bangladesh shine late to restrict South Africa to 205/5

Rossouw smashed 50 off just 30 balls and then accelerated the innings further with some big shots into the crowd. He smashed back-to-back sixes in Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan's first over to keep the pressure on the opponents. Afif Hossain removed De Kock in the 15th over to break the 163-run partnership for the second wicket to give Bangladesh some late hopes to restrict South Africa to a below 200 total.

Rossouw completed his hundred in the 17th over with a single off Shakib's delivery and celebrated it with a big six off his next ball. The Bangladeshi bowlers made a brilliant comeback in the death overs and conceded only 25 runs in the last four overs to restrict South Africa to a 205/5 total from 20 overs. Shakib proved to be the best bowler for his team with two wickets while conceding 33 runs from his three-over spell.
