Twitter Reactions: Shoaib Bashir's fifer, Root-Brook tons help England rout West Indies to series-claiming win at Trent Bridge
England beat West Indies by a massive 241 runs on Day 4 on Sunday.
Young spinner Shoaib Bashir bamboozled West Indies as he picked a flurry of wickets after veteran England batter Joe Root and Harry Brook's scintillating centuries piloted the hosts to a massive win of 241 runs over the visitors at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Day 4 of the second Test.
As a result, West Indies were given a stiff target of 385 runs. Even though the openers started decently and put up a 61-run stand, the tourists soon after fell like a deck of cards for a paltry 143 runs in 36.2 overs of play. Notably, Bashir claimed a five-wicket haul (5/41). The willy spinner bowled with precision and showed his stellar skills of drift and flight to claim his third five-wicket feat in as many appearances for the English side so far.
Interestingly, England were playing their first game in the post-Anderson era after nearly two decades. Chris Woakes who expected to don the leader of the leader of the bowling unit, played his role quite well by dismissing both openers. Thereafter, Mark Wood showed his express pace and Gus Atkinson took advantage of the situation and got himself in the wicket column with two victims to his name.
in the end, Bashir gave the finishing touch by cleaning up the talented Shamar Joseph who teased England in the previous knock with some lusty blows. Consequently, England routed West Indies to claim an unassailable lead in the ongoing Test series, which meant that the Ben Stokes-led side lifted their first series after nearly two years. They will now play the third Test in Edgbaston next week.
