Twitter Reactions: USA script history as hosts clinch miraculous T20I series against mighty Bangladesh
The USA defeated Bangladesh by six runs in the second T20I.
The USA and Bangladesh continued their ongoing three-game T20I series by facing off in the second T20I of the series. Both sides locked horns in the second game at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston on Thursday, May 23. The hosts had already won the first T20I of the series in brilliant fashion and aimed to replicate their showing in the second game as well.
The second clash began with the USA batting first after losing the toss. The side opened with Steven Taylor and Monank Patel scoring 31 and 42 runs, respectively. Aaron Jones scored 35 off 34, with Andries Gous being sent back to the pavilion for a golden duck.
Furthermore, star all-rounder Corey Anderson could only add 11 runs on the board, with Nitish Kumar and Shadley van Schalkwyk staying unbeaten on scores of seven runs each. The USA managed to post a total of 144 runs in the first innings, losing six wickets in the process.
As for Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Rishad Hossain contributed hugely to restrict the opposition with two wickets each to their names.
Aiming to chase down the target, Bangladesh got off to a subpar start to the clash as opener Soumya Sarkar was sent packing for a duck, with Tanzid Hasan scoring 19 runs in 15 deliveries. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 36 runs in 34 deliveries, with Towhid Hridoy adding 25 runs on the board alongside Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 30 runs in 23 deliveries.
However, despite the top-order batters showing some resilience, the middle-order batters could not amount to much. Mahmudullah was dismissed for three runs, with Jaker Ali scoring just four runs. Rishad added nine runs on the board, with Tanzim Hasan Sakib getting sent back to the pavilion on a duck.
Bangladesh were bundled out for just 138 runs as the USA won the game by six runs and clinched the series as well, registering their second win in two matches played so far. For the home team, Ali Khan was the pick of the bowlers with a fabulous three-for, giving away just 25 runs in 3.3 overs. Khan was also adjudged Player of the Match for this stellar bowling display in a crucial game.
With back-to-back upsets against the might of Bangla Tigers, USA scripted history with an emphatic series victory, right ahead of the home T20 World Cup, beginning in June.
