Day 2 of the 2nd Test between India and England at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium witnessed India resume their first innings with a firm eye on a substantial total. Yashasvi Jaiswal inched towards a maiden double century and showcased remarkable resilience amid concerns over India's batting fragility observed on Day 1. He became the fourth youngest player to score a double century and the third youngest Indian to breach the 200 mark.
Jaiswal's stellar performance of 209 runs off 290 deliveries, embellished with 19 boundaries and 7 sixes, set a formidable foundation for the hosts. Despite the setbacks faced by openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who couldn't convert their starts, and with Shreyas Iyer's brief support with 27 runs on Day 1, Jaiswal's innings stood out prominently. Surprisingly, Gill's contribution of 34 runs was the second-highest in the Indian innings after Jaiswal's magnificent display. Jaiswal was eventually scalped by Jimmy Anderson who has now bowled over 39,000 deliveries in Tests.
England's debutant spinner, Shoaib Bashir, impressed with three crucial wickets, while James Anderson and Rehan Ahmed also contributed with three each, limiting India to 396 runs on Day 2. India's objective was clear - to build partnerships around Jaiswal's monumental innings and convert promising starts into substantial scores, which they failed to execute. Despite the conducive batting conditions, Ravichandran Ashwin's failure to provide support and the lower order's inability to capitalise left India agonisingly short of a commanding total of 500.
Buoyed by their bowling performance, England will aim to capitalise on the remaining sessions of the day. The battle between Jaiswal's resilience and England's bowling attack emerged as the defining factor of Day 2. Whether Jaiswal's double ton would propel India to a commanding position or if England could restrict them to a worrisome state remains to be seen. As the upcoming session holds the key, both teams are geared up for an intense battle on the field, and are eager to seize the momentum in their favour. The outcome of this tussle would significantly shape the course of the Test match.

His off side strokeplay and lofted shots are a sight to behold. But what impresses me the most about this young man is his hunger for runs. A vital knock in the context of the series, very well played @ybj_19 👏🏽 #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/xy7mU4opqf

@ayushbhatt4 How @ECB_cricket approaches a score which is not huge, and at the same time also not a paltry score by any stretch of imagination, is a thing to be seen. Interesting times ahead. Real test of #Bazball Cricket. #INDvsENGTest

Indian cricket is in dire need of accountability. From selectors to coach to captain to batsmen to bowlers to fielders. Yes, they are humans and they can make mistakes. But some of the things happening are beyond mistakes. #INDvENG #INDvsENGTest #INDvsENG #ENGvsIND #ENGvIND
