‘Unreal downfall’ - Twitterati troll Suryakumar Yadav following another flop show against Chennai Super Kings
Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for just one run against CSK
The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 saw Mumbai Indians continue from where they left off in the IPL 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side finished 10th in the IPL points table in the previous season. However, the team hoped for a better outcome in the ongoing T20 carnival.
After losing their first game of the season to Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai geared up for a heavyweight clash against four-time champions Chennai Super Kings.
Mumbai came in to bat and got off to a decent start, but everything came crumbling down due to the quick dismissals of the top-order. Undoubtedly, Mumbai have a plethora of issues to fix, however, one major issue is definitely the form of star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav.
32-year-old Suryakumar lit the stage on fire at the 2022 T20 World Cup; his performances at the tournament saw him become a regular name in the Indian lineup. He even received his Test debut during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and was part of India's squad for the ODI series against Australia as well. However, he recently has been unable to find the form that arguably made him the world’s No. 1 T20I batter.
In the two matches that he has played so far, Surya has scored 16 runs collectively. In the game against Chennai, he was dismissed after scoring just one run, as he was caught behind by skipper MS Dhoni.
Chennai’s relentless bowling attack overwhelms Mumbai Indians
Batting first, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma looked in good form. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner’s brilliant spells dismantled the top order of the already struggling Mumbai side.
Cameron Green, Ishan Kishan, and Arshad Khan all fell prey to Santner and Jadeja as Chennai mounted early pressure on the five-time champions. Following quick dismissals, Chennai will be keen on dismissing the rest of the batters and containing Mumbai to a low total.
Here's how Twitter reacted to Suryakumar Yadav's poor form:
