Delhi Capitals Women continued their reign at the top of the points table in Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 with a 29-run win over Mumbai Indians Women on Tuesday, March 5 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur invited the hosts to bat first, they ended up posting a massive total of 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs with half-centuries from Meg Lanning (53 off 38) and Jemimah Rodrigues (69* off 33).

In reply, Mumbai could never get their innings going as they were reduced to 29/3 after three overs by Marizanne Kapp (2/37). Amanjot Kaur (42 off 27), Hayley Matthews (29 off 17) and S Sajana (24* off 14) played valiant knocks but couldn’t take their team over the line finishing their innings on 163/8 in their 20 overs.

1. Shafali Verma and Shabnim Ismail’s intense battle

The DC opener was once again looking in imperious form smashing MI bowlers to all corners of the ground. Verma took the attack on Shabnim Ismail in the fifth over smashing her for back-to-back sixes on the first two balls. However, she ended up edging on the third attempt and had to make her way back to the pavilion on 28 (12).

2. Jemimah Rodrigues races to her maiden fifty in WPL

The middle-order batter walked to the crease with DC on 79/2 after 4.3 overs. Jemimah scored her first 13 runs off 14 balls and unleashed her beast mode in the last five overs bringing up her half-century in 27 balls. She remained unbeaten on 69* (33) clobbering eight fours and three sixes in her innings.

3. Jess Jonassen claims purple cap with her third consecutive 3-fer

The left-arm spinner continued her marvellous form with the ball and registered figures of 3/21 in four overs. She got the big wicket of Hayley Matthews (29 off 17) in her first over and later dismissed Amanjot Kaur (42 off 27) and Humaira Kazi (6 off 8) to complete her 3-fer. Following her brilliant spell, she climbed to the top of the wicket taker’s list with nine scalps to her name from three innings at an average of 7.11 and an economy of 5.33.
