UP Warrrioz (UP-W) continued their winning momentum in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 as they beat Gujarat Giants by six wickets in Match 08 on Friday, March 1 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. After being put in to bat first, Gujarat could only manage to reach 142/5 in their allotted 20 overs with valuable contributions from Phoebe Litchfield (35 off 26) and Ashleigh Gardner (30 off 17).

In reply, UP chased down the target comfortably in just 15.4 overs courtesy of a splendid half-century from Grace Harris 60 (33). Captain Alyssa Healy also played a good knock of 33 (21) to get her team off to a good start. Harris was also awarded Player of the Match for her first fifty of the season.

1. Sophie Ecclestone shines with the ball for UP

The left-arm spinner spun a web around Gujarat batter as she finished as the pick of the bowlers for her side. Ecclestone first got rid of GG captain Beth Mooney in the sixth over and dismissed Laura Wolvaardt in the tenth over getting both caught at mid-off. She further dismissed Ashleigh Gardner to finish with figures of 3/20 in four overs.

2. Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner put on a 52-run stand for the fourth wicket

After Gujarat were 83/3 after 13 overs, Phoebe Litchfield (35 off 26) and Ashleigh Gardner (30 off 17) got involved in a 52-run stand for the fourth wicket off 31 balls to take their team’s total past 130. However, both failed to reach their respective half-centuries.

3. Grace Harris takes UP home with a splendid knock of 60 (33)

After a good opening stand of 42 between Alyssa Healy (33 off 21) and Kiran Navgire (12 off 8) UP were 50/2 when Grace Harris walked to the crease. The 30-year-old played a breathtaking knock of 60* (33) smashing nine fours and two sixes and took her team home with 26 balls to spare.
