WTC Final 2023: Top 10 Memes from IND vs AUS, Final Match
Australia finished Day 1 on 327/3 with Steve Smith (95*) and Travis Head (146*) at the crease.
The much-awaited World Test Championship final 2023 got underway on June 7 at The Oval in London as Australia and India locked horns in the summit clash. Indian captain Rohit Sharma called it correctly at the toss and elected to bowl first on a green track under overcast conditions. Seamers Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami started exceptionally with the ball as they made the ball dance to their tunes.
Siraj gave the first blow to Australia as he dismissed Usman Khawaja for a ten-ball duck in the fourth over of the day. Following his dismissal, Warner started taking on the bowlers and looked in great touch as he raced to 43 off 59 balls smashing eight fours in his innings. However, he couldn’t continue his innings as he got dismissed in the 22nd over trying to pull a delivery down the leg side by Shardul Thakur.
After his dismissal, Mohammed Shami got India’s third success as he destroyed the stumps of Marnus Labuschagne early in the second session leaving Australia on 76/3 after 24.1 overs. India had a firm grasp on the game till then, however, the batter at the crease, Travis Head, played a brilliant counter-attacking knock to put the pressure back on India. The duo of Travis and Steve Smith got set at the crease and kept on piling runs, thereby leaving Indian bowlers helpless.

Head went on to score a sensational hundred off just 106 balls and became the first player ever to reach triple figure-mark in the WTC final. At the other end, Smith played second fiddle and brought up his half-century off 144 balls. After completing his half-century, Smith managed to find boundaries at regular intervals and moved into the nervous 90s (95* off 227) by the end of the day's play. Head also is just four runs away from completing 150, batting on 146*(156). Australia finished the day on 327/3 with Head and Smith adding 251* for the fourth wicket so far.
