Twitter Reactions: David Warner makes his former franchise toil as SRH suffer third successive defeat
It was a high-scoring contest that saw the ball flying all over the park.
The IPL 2022 points table has got all the more interesting as Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 21 runs, jumping to fifth in the standings. It was a high-scoring contest that saw the ball flying all over the park. SRH even did well while chasing a mammoth 208 but they eventually fell well short of the target. David Warner was the chief architect of DC’s triumph as he slammed a stupendous 92* against his former franchise.
Earlier in the match, SRH won the toss and opted to bowl at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. With Prithvi Shaw being unavailable due to fitness issues, Mandeep Singh opened alongside David Warner but couldn’t make much of the opportunity. He bagged a five-ball duck as Bhuvneshwar Kumar was sensational as ever with the new ball. Number-three batter Mitchell Marsh couldn’t do much either and perished for 10.
David Warner, Rovman Powell demolish SRH bowlers in slog overs
However, Warner joined forces with skipper Rishabh Pant and the duo steadied the ship. The latter was aggressive in his intent as DC’s scoring run rate went up significantly. However, he was also dismissed for a 16-ball 26. The Aussie dasher, who had been watchful at one end, then found a substantial partner in Rovman Powell as it was one-way traffic since then.
The duo went absolutely berserk towards the end and took DC to a mammoth total. While Warner slammed an unbeaten 92 against his former franchise, Powell scored a 35-ball 67 as the Capitals posted 207/3 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, SRH got off to a terrible start as both openers Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed for single-digit scores.
Just like the previous games, the repair work was done by the middle-order as Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram scored 22 and 42 respectively. The major issue was that none of the two could convert their starts into big scores. At this point, the Orange Army looked entirely down and out. However, Nicholas Pooran wasn’t ready to go down without fighting.
Despite running out of partners from the other end, the southpaw stood strong and brought up his second successive half-century. He even once threatened to take the game away from the Capitals. However, his ouster for 62 in the 18th over put a stamp on DC’s triumph. SRH were eventually restricted to 186/8, losing the game by 21 runs.
