Twitter Reactions: David Warner, Usman Khawaja rip Bangladesh apart to post 381/5
David Warner registered his sixth 150+ score and played a highly entertaining knock.
It was a runs galore as Australia faced Bangladesh in the World Cup 2019 league game. Aaron Finch opted to bat in this game and made a couple of changes to the eleven. Marcus Stoinis was back in the team for Shaun Marsh and Nathan Coulter-Nile replaced Kane Richardson. But it was David Warner who stole all the limelight with an unbelievable knock in the game.
Along with Aaron Finch, he built up a partnership of 121 runs and laid a strong base. After the Australian skipper got out for 53 runs, Warner combined forces with Usman Khawaja. This duo gave the Bangladesh bowlers no chance and completely dominated them. They regularly hit the gaps, ran hard between the wickets and were terrific through the middle overs.
David Warner looked all set for a double century and at one stage, every ball that he touched was only going to the boundary. The left-hander brought his sixth 150+ plus score and was looking dangerous. But a slight error of judgement put curtains to his wonderful innings. Warner tried to uppercut a short ball from Soumya Sarkar. But it didn’t have enough pace on it and was a tad too high as well. Thus, it looped up to the man at short third man and Warner had to return for a well-made 166 which came off only 147 balls.
An anticlimactic finish to the innings after some brute hitting from Glenn Maxwell
The entire stadium stood up in applause as David Warner walked off the field but more fireworks were yet to come. Glenn Maxwell, who walked out next, was in the mood and got going from ball one. He cleared the fence thrice and hit a couple of fours as well and it even seemed as if Australia will get close to 400 or even more when he was batting. But he was involved in an ugly mix-up and ended up being run out after Rubel Hossain inflicted a direct hit. He scored 32 runs from just 10 balls in a highly entertaining knock.
Usman Khawaja’s role was subdued in the end overs with Warner and Maxwell dominating. Yet, he still had an opportunity to get to his hundred but missed out on it. He was dismissed for 89 runs. Although they didn’t finish really convincingly, Marcus Stoinis hit a couple of fours in the last over as he propelled his team to 381/5 in 50 overs.
Twitterati saluted David Warner for his knock in this game. They were mesmerized with the way Usman Khawaja and Glenn Maxwell played as well and even applauded Aaron Finch.
