Delhi Daredevils hadn’t done really well in the first game losing to the Knight Riders at Kolkata while the Kings were beaten at home by debutants Gujarat Lions both the teams were here looking for their first win. And as it turns out the Daredevils emerged a far better side in the battle of the two teams that have more often occupied the most uncomfortable bottom two positions in the points table.

Zaheer Khan won the toss and decided to bowl first, he started the proceedings himself and was superb. Zak looked rusty in the previous game and was hit for plenty but he came back really well, pitched it in perfect areas to trouble the batsmen and moved the ball enough the keep things in control, his first couple of overs cost them just 2 runs. Chris Morris who opened the bowling from the other end was spot on as well and KXIP batsmen were tied down right from the start. The pressure paid as Murali Vijay was soon run out on a delivery that should have accounted for Manan Vohra’s wicket but Zaheer dropped him and Quinton de Kock caught Vijay well short of the crease.

Once Amit Mishra came into the attack he ran through the KXIP middle order removing Vohra, Shaun Marsh, David Miller and Glenn Maxwell in his three overs against just 11 runs. He didn’t bowl his full quota or would have definitely had a fifer in his 100th IPL game. All the Kings managed was 111/9 in 20 overs.

DD also had a poor start as Shreyas Iyer departed for just 3 but de Kock and Sanju Samson batted quite sensibly and that was actually what they were asked to do on a surface that wasn’t as tough for batting as KXIP made it look and chasing a target that was required them to score lesser than run a ball right from the outset. Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten 59 would have pleased the management as much as this 8 wickets victory.
