Twitter Reactions: Fabian Allen's remarkable innings puts the Patriots on the top
Fabian Allen, what a knock that!
In their last league game, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were up against the Barbados Tridents. This game was one hell of a match and the Patriots pulled off what seemed to be impossible at one stage. Young Fabian Allen was majestic with the bat and put up some great skill on display. He sustained immense pressure, backed his abilities and helped script a memorable win for his side.
With this victory, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have plunged up to the top of the points table with 11 points. However, they are not likely to retain that position for a long as the Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs are just a win away from getting to the points table summit. The Barbados Tridents, on the other hand, have lost six games in a row now and hence sit at the bottom of the points table.
The Tridents do a bulk of their scoring in the last 7 overs
The Barbados Tridents have yet again tinkered with their batting order and dropped Martin Guptill for this encounter. India’s Sunny Sohal opened the innings for the team alongside Dwayne Smith. The openers provided the team with a decent start and added 45 runs for the opening wicket. However, the team lost quick wickets after this. While Hashim Amla, who came in at No 4 got out for 3 runs, Shai Hope was dismissed for just 1 run.
Barbados were 80 for 4 after 13 overs and were looking in all sorts of trouble. At this stage, Nicolas Pooran (44 off 32 balls) and Roston Chase struck together and built a great partnership. After Pooran’s dismissal, Holder joined Chase and scored a quickfire 30 off 11 balls. The team added 88 runs in the last 7 overs and got to a respectable position. Tabraiz Shamsi was great with the ball and picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs.
Fabian Allen, what a knock that!
With the kind of hitting prowess that was on display in the last game, many would have thought that chasing 169 would be quite easy for the Patriots. Chris Gayle with 22 off 18 and Evin Lewis with 19 off 13 got the team off to a good start. However, the team witnessed a mini collapse after the opening partnership. They were down 92/6 in the 12th over and it was quite a tough ask for them to get to the winning line from there.
But, Fabian Allen and Ben Cutting struck together in the middle. With Allen doing the majority of the scoring, Cutting played the anchor and scored 11 off 14 balls before he was dismissed in the 18th over. Due to the fall of two quick wickets, the equation which was 26 off 18 balls became 17 runs off the last over. Fabian Allen remained unshattered and smashed the first two balls of the last over for sixes. He followed it up with a four and sneaked in a leg bye off the fourth ball to hand his team a two-wicket win.
Twitterati was absolutely mesmerised by Fabian Allen hitting skills. He took just 34 balls to score 64 runs and was absolutely brilliant on the night. They also trolled the Tridents for losing 6 games in a row.
