The stage was set for the fourth ODI between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Newlands, Cape Town. The visitors had meekly surrendered in the previous three matches of the series. No wonder why the scoreline read 0-3 in favor of the hosts getting into the game. Little did the Sri Lankan team know about what was about to perspire in the match.

Today they were just blown away by a cyclonic knock by middle-order batsman Faf du Plessis. Du Plessis walked into the game riding on a brilliant stat that showed his prolific run in the ODIs in the recent times. He had 4 fifties to his name in the last 7 ODI innings that included a couple of tons as well. The match only served a testimony to the supreme form that the batsman was in.

Coming in at number 3, he plundered 185 runs to help South Africa post a sizeable 367/5 on the board. He came in to bat early on in the innings after the hosts opted to bat first. Hashim Amla perished in the very second over as Lahiru Kumara struck first blood for the visitors.

In walked Faf du Plessis to join Quinton de Kock at the crease. Both batsmen showed supreme class and timing as they put on 100 runs for the second wicket. Quinton de Kock perished and the South African skipper AB de Villiers walked into bat. However, it was du Plessis, who hogged all the limelight on the day. He raced past his 25th ODI fifty in the 18th over with a four off the bowling of Lahiru Kumara. It was only a matter of time that he notched up a brilliant century by the end of the 33rd over.

Yet again, he reached the milestone with a four off the bowling of Kumara down to fine leg. As a few wickets kept tumbling, Faf managed to build a crescendo in his innings. He accelerated his way to a classical 150 in the 46th over. No points for guessing, it was again with a boundary off the bowling of Kumara. He eventually ended up with 185 off 141 deliveries with 16 fours and 3 sixes to his name. He perished in the last over off the bowling of Lahiru Madushanka. He missed out on a well-deserved double ton.
